The UUCH Board is pleased to announce that Nick Wilbourn is now officially our new President, and Betsy Applegate is our new Vice President. As many of you will remember, when we voted for this year’s officers, we knew that John Schulz would not be available for the entire year, and Nick generously agreed to serve starting in January, 2022. Nick previously served as Vice President and Chair of the Council. In addition, he has been very active in many aspects of church life, especially in Worship and in Adult Religious Education. We are fortunate to have such a competent, well-organized, and compassionate person assume this leadership role.
Nick’s move to Board President, left an opening as Vice President and Betsy Applegate has graciously agreed to serve in this capacity. Betsy is a long-time member of UUCH and has been involved in most areas of our mission over the years; recently, she served on the Minister Search Committee and Personnel Committee. She has extraordinary organizational skills, and will bring much insight and wisdom to this position.
The mid-year change in leadership is due to the upcoming move of John Schulz, our President for the last several years. John is retiring from his job in Huntsville in March, and he and Jessica will be moving back to San Diego sometime in April. John says that “we have really enjoyed our time here and made so many great friends. We’ll miss everyone and plan to visit regularly, as our daughter, Lauren, will continue to live in Franklin, TN.”
We will miss John and Jessica at UUCH. They have both been tremendous contributors to our church community in so many ways with their participation leadership, music, hospitality, and worship. In addition, they are such joyful and positive people to know. As President, John wisely led our church through the difficult times in the past year and helped keep us focused on our mission in a flexible and calm manner. UUCH is deeply grateful for all the skill and competence he brought to church leadership. Thank you both – we will miss you.
