Resist and Rejoice

The Resist and Rejoice! theme of this year’s General Assembly calls us to embody a more anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and multicultural faith. Bryan Stevenson, this year’s Ware Lecture speaker, reminded us that being in proximity with people is an important step in fulfilling this mission.

This Sunday, we welcome Dexter Strong and Aaron McNully, from REACHsv (Racial Equality Action Committee of Huntsville), to speak with us about the important work toward justice, equity, and compassion happening in our city.  Aaron serves as the Director of Community Affairs and Dexter is the Director of Development. REACHsv exists to highlight and address issues of structural racism and inequality and to promote racial equality in Huntsville and the surrounding area.

Their work with REACHsv has led to collaborative efforts with a number of great organizations in the area: the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Huntsville chapter, Project Say Something (based in Florence), Faith in Action Alabama, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), Tennessee Valley Progressive Alliance (TVPA), and Indivisible. Come and hear how we can participate in this important work.
