“Becoming Beloved”

Our Universalist roots call us to an embracing, all-encompassing, salvific Love. This universal love meets us where we are and crucially also asks us to grow more whole through our encounters with each other. To embody this love, we must transform and be transformed by our commitments to lift each other up, to seek liberation of our bodies, and liberation of our spirits. What changes must we embrace, and what transformations must we choose to better embody beloved community?

Alia Shinbrough is a Candidate for Unitarian Universalist Ministry and they currently serve as the Student Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, in Manhasset, New York. Alia graduated Harvard Divinity School with their Master of Divinity degree in 2020. A life-long Unitarian Universalist, their passions for social justice, Alia Shinbrough, and community building have led them to pursue a life of service through ministry. Outside of congregational life, Alia can often be found reading science fiction, keeping up to date on current events, connecting with friends and family, fighting for a more just world, and spending time in the great outdoors.
