Governance

The governance of our Unitarian Universalist church is manifest in the 5th UU Principle affirmed and promoted by Unitarian Universalist congregations. “The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.” Under UUA congregational polity each congregation is self-governing, choosing its own leadership, handling its own finances, and choosing its own delegates to the General Assembly (UUA Bylaws, Sections C-3.2, C-11.1, 4.8).

As such the voting members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville elect the Board of Trustees for leadership and fiduciary responsibility. This policy board focuses on articulating vision, making policy, and oversight while the day-to-day decisions and ministries are conducted by the Board-appointed Council.  Chaired by the Board Vice President, the Council comprises Committee Chairs of all church-wide committees. The minister is a member of both of these governing bodies.
